Mitchell County's rich, dark soil, is highly suited for farming. Agriculture has always been the major economic foundation of the Solomon Valley and is what first attracted settlers to the region. Crops include wheat, corn, sorghum, soybeans, sunflowers, alfalfa, grass and other. Cattle, hogs and sheep are also staples of farm and ranch activity. Agriculture continues to strongly support the livelihood of the county’s eight communities.
