Glen Elder State Park, located just a quarter mile west of of Glen Elder, 5 miles east of Cawker City, and 12 miles west of Beloit in Mitchell County, Kansas, immediately adjacent to U.S. Highway 24, is conveniently situated along the north shores of the landmark 12,500-acre Waconda Lake.  Basic groceries, dining, bait and other supplies are available within one mile of the park.

Glen Elder State Park offers a wide variety of outdoor recreational opportunities and supporting facilities. Highly maintained, it is very suitable for family and friend gatherings, boaters, campers and other outdoor enthusiasts of all ages. 
 Family-friendly, the Park provides many opportunities including: children’s playground, swimming, boating, hiking, volleyball and softball facilities, reservable group shelter and a public fish cleaning station. 
 
Hiking and Biking Trails are laid out and maintained throughout the entire park system providing opportunity for both fitness and nature enthusiasts.

An archery range with a variety of targets set at various distances, is  available directly across from the Park's ranger station.

​Historical Things To See within the park include the Waconda Visitors & Educational Center, Hopewell Church and a replica of Waconda Springs, the lake’s namesake.  All are easily found and quickly accessed from U.S Hwy. 24.

Camping & Day Trips
Glen Elder State Park offers plenty of room for campers of any preference:
  • 121 modern camping sites in 3 different areas, offer electrical hookups (most with water), of which 50 prime reservable sites include 12 x 40 concrete pads and chain tie-downs
  • 300 primitive sites are available throughout the expanse of the park

Camp Grounds
  • Kanza area (open from mid-April to December, and dependent on weather, during the winter and early spring
  • Cheyenne area (open late April through September
  • Kaw / Sioux area (open May through August)
  • Fishing is allowed from all camp ground shores

Other Facilities:
  • Modern restrooms / showers at multiple locations 
  • Marina - this full-service facility offers boat rentals, fuel, bait, rental slips, and a small convenience store
  • Boat ramps & ADA courtesy docks – located in the Kanza and Osage areas, offer excellent water access
